About Me
I am a multimedia artist who mainly focuses on painting, drawing, and collage. My main mediums consist of watercolor combined with colored pencil. In addition, I do use oil paint in some of my other works. My collage elements usually consist of ribbon, crafted 3D paper forms, or representational items from my life. My work's purpose is to embody my personal exploration of gender presentation and finding my way through life as a woman in America. I have always felt very strongly about women finding their place in society and defying the set boundaries that America's society was built on. I’ve come from a line of strong women who had to find a way to be independent and successful at a young age, and I look to them to help me go through life. I bring recognition to the personal triumphs that I have accomplished and how they have made me grow into who I am today. I do this through the creation of pieces that specialize in my personal gender experience and explore what it truly means to identify as a woman. I use the human form in many of my pieces due to the changing definition of what a body represents. I also use nature in the way of describing the natural evolution of one’s gender throughout their life, and also the mysterious nature of gender. Through this storytelling of my gender, I evoke a sense of curiosity in others about what their gender means to them and how they navigate through life with their identity. My pieces consist of a pinkish palette to help highlight my growing into my gender and the recognition of a category that does not define me as delicate, as the stereotype around the color suggests. My work evokes a sense of recognition within myself as I reflect on my journey through life.
